Working in partnership to support the fight against COVID-19
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join in the fight
and national effort against this global pandemic.
Medicines Discovery Catapult (MDC) are proud to be working in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care, UK Biocentre and the University of Glasgow to help in the fight against COVID-19. As part of the UK Lighthouse Labs Network, MDC are responsible for running and managing the laboratory at the impressive Alderley Park site in Cheshire, which is the UK’s largest life science campus.
MDC are building capacity and processes to be able to analyse tens of thousands of COVID-19 swab samples from across the country. Some of the most highly-skilled individuals in the scientific community are dedicating their time and expertise to ensure our lab is processing samples as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Unprecedented times calls for unprecedented measures and at MDC we are focused on building the best team possible to significantly increase the testing capacity.
Join the team
We are looking to build a team of over 500 at Alderley Park including Lab Scientists, Bioscience Leads, and Data Scientists. Together, the team are responsible for unpacking the samples and processing them through the lab assay workflow, testing for SARS-CoV-2 – the viral infection that causes COVID-19. And, as you’d expect, a focus on quality, continuous improvement, and health and safety are key aspects of all roles.
Experience of performing biological assays in a scientific research or diagnostic laboratory is essential, in either a work or study environment. Attention to detail and the ability to manage processes effectively and efficiently are also essential.
Knowledge of working in a Class 2 containment, RTPCR and/or qPCR environment and experience operating liquid handling machines would be advantageous.
Whether you are just finishing your A-levels and taking a year out; looking for a year in industry during your degree; finalising your PhD; or already have the appropriate lab experience and want to get involved in the national effort against COVID-19, we have roles available as Lab Scientists and would love to hear from you.
If you have more experience and have managed a lab environment, have knowledge of managing and testing new methodologies, or are a data scientist, please review our live vacancies for other suitable opportunities.
